As the colder weather arrives, we thought we would share some simple and practical advice to help our members and others, stay safe, healthy, and comfortable throughout the winter months.
Winter can bring challenges such as lower temperatures, icy conditions, and shorter days, but small changes can make a big difference to wellbeing.
Here are some tips:
1. Keep warm indoors
Try to heat your main living space to at least 18°C (65°F). Wearing layers, closing curtains at dusk, and blocking drafts can all help to keep the cold out.
2. Eat regular, hot meals and drinks
Warm food and drinks help maintain your energy and body temperature. Soups, stews, and porridge are ideal options during the colder months.
3. Stay active
Light movement, such as gentle stretching or walking indoors, helps boost circulation and keeps you feeling well.
4. Check your medication and supplies
Make sure you have enough prescriptions and essential items in case the weather makes it harder to get out.
5. Take care outdoors
Wear sturdy shoes with good grip, use walking aids if needed, and take your time on icy or uneven surfaces.
6. Keep in touch
Stay connected with friends, family, or neighbours. A quick chat or check-in can make a big difference, especially if the weather is poor.
Libertus encourages everyone to look out for one another this winter and to reach out for help if needed.
