When we say the 1950s-themed week at Libertus brought joy and excitement, we’re not exaggerating. For some of our members, the event became more than just a fun few days—it was something to look forward to, something to talk about, and something to truly celebrate.
One of our members, Betty, captured that spirit perfectly.
In the weeks leading up to the event, Betty could hardly contain her excitement. She told staff and fellow members about her memories of the 1950s—of dances at the local hall, dressing up with her friends, and the music that filled her youth with joy.
“I just thought, if I’m going back to the 50s for a day, I want to look the part!”
Her son, clearly touched by her enthusiasm, surprised her with a brand-new dresa!. Betty was over the moon.
But the dress was only part of it. Betty was so proud of how Libertus had been transformed—how beautifully decorated the centre was, how staff had dressed up and embraced the theme, how the music, dancing, and food brought everyone together in joy—that she wanted to show it off.
So, she called her district nurses and told them they simply had to stop by.
“You need to come and see what we’re doing here,” she told them. “It’s absolutely wonderful—you won’t believe it!”
And they did. Two nurses dropped in during the event to see Betty, admire her dress, and take in the vibrant, joyful atmosphere.
It was a small gesture that spoke volumes.
For Betty, this wasn’t just about a themed event—it was about feeling part of something meaningful, fun, and shared. It was about being seen, being excited, and being proud to be part of the Libertus community.
