We spoke with our brilliant volunteer Katie M to get some feedback on her volunteering at Libertus. We wanted to share her story with you as it is very inspirational.
“I volunteered with Libertus because I wanted to work with older people, meet new people, gain more confidence and cope better with difficult tasks. I want to learn new things and meet new people and gain lots of experience in a busy workplace.
My days of working with Libertus are every Tuesday and I am given a few tasks to do on the computer (e.g. PowerPoint presentations and emailing work stuff to members of staff if they are off sick or working from home.) I am always in a happy mood when coming here to work.
The most rewarding aspect of volunteering is receiving a friendly smile from the people you work with and when serving the members or sitting down with them getting in return a welcoming gesture.
I see my future as working in either a care home or day center with the elderly, and volunteering here has helped me a lot because I have gained so much experience with the staff and members and I have learnt how to deal and cope with difficult tasks when assisting the members.
I attended some training sessions at Libertus before I started working, which helped me a lot to prepare for my first day of work. I also received plenty of information about the training and what days I would be attending them.
I am a keen person who is prepared to take on any form of work and I have been appreciated for all my hard work that I do on PowerPoint, word and Excel. Everyone who works at Libertus were so welcoming with me and they all say that I am a hard worker and very friendly and caring.”
Very inspiring and lovely, I am sure you will agree.
