7 Delightful Things Project
7 Delightful Things Project
A year long series of intergenerational projects based on the themes of the seven deadly sins. Aims and Objectives: To establish a 12 month long series of intergenerational projects within South Edinburgh.

Narration and Video Project – Brief:

To create a series of short films based around the themes of the Seven Deadly Sins. Older people living within South Edinburgh will be invited to write a short piece based around one of the Seven Deadly Sins. They will then record the piece as a spoken narrative. This narrative will form the basis of the film which will be made by local youngsters. The youngsters will work with the writers to create a video accompaniment to the narrative. The project will be called Seven Delightful Things in response to changing perceptions of ‘sins’ such as lust, greed etc, etc. To date Libertus has worked up 3 pilot narratives from local people. We will be looking to work with both Liberton and Gracemount High School, Street Work and elderly people from within the community.

Libertus Writers Bureau – Brief:

Participants will be involved in developing their creative writing. They will work with a professional writer to develop pieces of work for submission into competitions and publications. They will help to write and develop Libertus Drama Associations 2007 Edinburgh Festival theatre production. They will work up a radio broadcast type serial. This will be in 12 monthly instalments and will be recorded by a cross generational group of South Edinburgh residents. The serial will be available to download from the Libertus website as well as being distributed on cd and audio tape to relevant people (blind, illiterate, prisons, schools, housebound etc). Writer bureau members will also be invited to write a piece for the Seven Delightful Things project.

Libertus Drama Association:

Libertus Drama Association will be expanded to include an in house video production team. Previously we have had to out source a lot of our film making due to a lack of equipment. By acquiring a quality sound and video production facility we will be able to develop the film making aspect of the association and distribute our productions further a field. We also plan to create a fly on the wall style documentary which follows the entire production of our 2007 Edinburgh Festival play from start to finish. This will be distributed to other organisations as a tool to help them with putting their own performances together.

Libertus Soundz:

A cross generational music project. Participants will work with a professional musician and producer to create music for Libertus Drama association 2007. They will also create relaxing musical scores for the Libertus therapies program. Target participants will be Libertus members, the local secondary schools and interested individuals living within South Edinburgh.

NB: ALL PROJECTS WILL BE BASED HOWEVER LOOSLY AROUND THE THEME OF THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS. WE WANT TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN THE IDEA OF MORALITY AND CHANGES RELATED TO MORALITY OVER THE YEARS AND WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES

Outcomes:

The 7 Delightful Things Project was a great success which culminated in sell out shows at the 2007 Edinburgh International Festival, 7 short films being submitted to the 2008 Edinburgh International Film Festival, a collection of short stories and poems, a 45 minute documentary and a wonderful audio radio play. The project has also been a catalyst for follow up work and the ambition and innovation is currently continuing under the guise of ‘The Dissolution of Physicality’, our new follow up multi media extravaganza!
